On August 24th Reporter without Borders (ROG) started an online campaign for the immediate release of the Iranian blogger and human rights activist Shiva Nazar Ahari. More than 3,000 people have signed the international appeal to the Iranian authorities. On September 2nd, Reporter Without Borders will deliver the collected signatures to the Iranian embassy.
Shiva Nazar Ahari, the 26 year old founding member of the human rights organization “Committee of Human Rights Reporters“ (CHRR), has been held since December 20th in the Evin Prison in Tehran. According to information presented to ROG, the trial of Shiva Nazar Ahari will take place on September 4th.
That is why ROG is calling for protests on September 2nd in front of the Iranian Embassy to demand the release of Shiva Nazar Ahari and protest against the massive persecution of dissidents, bloggers and journalists in the Islamic Republic. Up until now, there has been no confirmation from the Iranian Embassy that they will receive the petition in person.
The participants in the protest will wear masks bearing Shiva Nazar Aharis’s face and carry posters to show their solidarity with the over 36 bloggers and journalists being held in Iranian prisons. The event is being supported by CHRR and the campaign in support of Shiva Nazarahari.
